Lifeguard Training

Dear Participants,

Thank you for choosing High Sierra Pools as your training provider.

The purpose of the American Red Cross Lifeguarding course is to teach candidates the knowledge and skills needed to prevent and respond to aquatic emergencies. The course content and activities prepare candidates to recognize and respond quickly and effectively to emergencies and prevent drowning and injuries. In the Bloodborne Pathogens Training course, you will learn about the intent of the Bloodborne Pathogens Standard issued by the federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), how bloodborne pathogens are spread, precautions to prevent bloodborne pathogens transmission and the steps to take if an exposure occurs.

Successful completion requires participation in skills practice. The practice sessions will require some strenuous physical activity. You are encouraged to check with your health-care professional before participating in the practice sessions.

Lifeguarding course

The cost of Lifeguarding Course is discounted at $225 for all sessions beginning before May 14, 2011. For all sessions beginning on or after May 14, 2011, the cost is $250.This course includes all required certifications (Lifeguarding/First Aid, CPR-AED for Lifeguards and Bloodborne Pathogens Training.).

Please note that in order to be eligible for a lifeguarding position with High Sierra Pools, applicants must be at least 16 years of age by the date that they would begin work. Limited positions are available for lifeguards who will start work after season opening (May 28). For questions regarding this, please call the High Sierra Pools HR Department at (703) 920-1750.

CPR-AED and Bloodborne Pathogens Training

To be certified or recertified in CPR/AED and Bloodborne Pathogens, the training cost is $50 for classes before May 22, 2011. For classes on or after May 22, 2011, the cost of CPR/AED and Bloodborne Pathogens training is $75.

Registration

Registering online for a lifeguarding course or CPR/AEDand Bloodborne Pathogenscourse is easy:

• Please select one of the available courses from the drop-down menu below.
• To register, have your credit or debit card ready and click on the register button.
• You will complete the payment transaction via PayPal. You do not need a PayPal account and we accept all major credit cards.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION:

• Please note that the lifeguard training is a 3-day course. The class starts at 9am and finishes at 8pm every day.
• Classroom sessions are held at the High Sierra Office (1012 South Cleveland Street, Arlington VA 22204) or at the Jewish Community Center of Northern Virginia (8900 Little River Turnpike, Fairfax VA 22031).
• Pool sessions are held at facilities in the local area. Instructors will arrange transportation only if needed from the classroom to the pool for any students that do not have their own transportation.
• Please bring pen, paper, swimsuit and towel, as well as a lunch (or money to buy lunch at a location close to the classroom).
• After registration you will be contacted by a High Sierra Pools representative who will provide you with more details and the training location.
• NOTE TO PARENTS OF STUDENTS: If you are enrolling your child in this course, please note that an instructor will be present for classroom and pool sessions, but that lunch and break times are not chaperoned. Students typically walk to a local fast food restaurant unless they bring a lunch. Also, because the training days may include a session at both a pool and separate classroom, High Sierra Pools will arrange transportation between these sites as needed.
