All lifeguard staff must be certified by the American Red Cross in Lifeguarding/First Aid, CPR-AED, and Bloodborne Pathogens.

Before registering, please read all important information below:

 

Lifeguarding Course

A/ Lifeguarding/First Aid/ CPR/AED and Bloodborne Pathogens (3 days in-person course)

Who: For all lifeguard staff with no certificates or currently expired certificates.
Price: Prospective employees: $125 (this is early bird price for the courses that end before or on May 14th, the courses after May 14th will cost $150); Non-employees: $250
Certificates received: Lifeguarding/First Aid/CPR/AED, valid for 2 years, and Bloodborne Pathogens,  valid for 1 year.

B/ Lifeguarding/First Aid/CPR/AED and Bloodborne Pathogens Blended Learning (on-line session + 2 days in-person)

Who: For all lifeguard stuff with no certificates or currently expired certificates.
Price:Prospective employees: $125 ($90 upon registration with High Sierra Pools and remaining $35 after receiving link from American Red Cross); Non-employees: $250($35 upon registration with American Red Cross and the remaining amount to High Sierra Pools)
Certificates received: Lifeguarding/First Aid/CPR/AED, valid for 2 years, and Bloodborne Pathogens,  valid for 1 year.

Who: For participants with valid certificates
Price: Prospective employees: $75; Non-employees: $150

Bloodborne Pathogens Training: Preventing Disease Transmission Course

Completing a course does not guarantee employment with HSP. Please note that in order to be eligible for a lifeguard position with High Sierra Pools, applicants must be at least 16 years of age by the date that they would begin work. Limited positions are available for lifeguards who will start working after Memorial Weekend. IMPORTANT INFORMATION:

  • Our lifeguard training program is a 3-day course (except The Blended Learning Program). Classes start at 9am and finish at 6pm each day.
  • Classroom sessions are held at 2704 Columbia Pike, Arlington VA 22204 (HSP office in Arlington) or 11504 Ste. A Jefferson Ave.,Newport News, VA 23601 (HSP office in Newport News)
  • Pool sessions are held at the following indoor facilities
    • Jewish Community Center of Northern Virginia located at 8900 Little River Turnpike, Fairfax VA 22031 or
    • Old Hampton Community Pool located at 201 Lincoln Street, Hampton, VA 23669
  • Instructors will arrange transportation between the classroom and the pool only if requested or if a student doesn’t have their own transportation.
  • Please bring: Picture ID, pen, paper, swimsuit, towel and a bagged lunch (or money to purchase lunch at a location nearby).
  • Once you complete your registration, an HSP representative will contact you to provide you with further information and details about the training program and locations.
  •  Practice sessions require some strenuous physical activity. Therefore, participants are encouraged to check with health care professional before enrolling in the practice sessions.
